Beyond the lab
I'm Keguang, a biology student with a curiosity about the living world that extends beyond my studies.
Outside research, I enjoy cooking, hiking, and growing plants. Time in the kitchen, on a trail, or looking after plants is an important part of my everyday life.
I also enjoy photographing plants I encounter. Three of my photographs accompany my research interests, connecting the questions I study with things I have noticed in person.
Meet Chuyi (初一)
Chuyi is my Call duck and unofficial research companion. I raised him from a fertilized egg: after 28 days of incubation, he hatched on the first day of the Lunar New Year in 2023. His name, 初一, means the first day of the lunar month.
Watching him emerge from an egg and grow into the companion he is today fills me with wonder at the power and resilience of life. He is a much-loved part of my everyday life.
